Yining is a city in the Ili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture of Xinjiang, China. It is located on the northern side of the Tian Shan mountain range, and is the largest city of the autonomous prefecture. The city is home to many ethnic minorities, including Uyghurs, Kazakhs, Kyrgyz, and Mongols, and the local language is mostly Uyghur.
